Tifa Lockhart Cosplay

Last weekend I attended MileHiCon here in Denver. It was my first fan-focused con, though it also caters to writers. I went to amazing panels, bought fun jewelry, and generally had a blast. I also cosplayed for the first time! I’ve wanted to for a while, and I’m so glad I finally did. I chose Tifa Lockhart from Final Fantasy 7. She’s my second favorite character, after Sephiroth (of course). I attended with Christine, and we did a couple of photo shoots to document our hard work. We put a lot of effort into our costumes (especially Christine–so go check out her blog post and amazing pictures), so we deserved to indulge in a little bit of vanity. We took some pictures on the first day, then brought my DSLR on the second day for more. The weather was really nice the first day, and freezing the second. We were so cold, but it was worth it for all the great pics.

Cosplay is so much fun. I might’ve caught the bug.

Start off the morning with a good stretch.
Survey Midgar. We’re totes gonna bring down ShinRa.
Put my gear on.
Time to warm up.
Do some practice kicks.
Check my fighting stance.
Awwww yeah, I’m so ready for this.
Contemplating our plan to blow up the Mako Reactors.
Waiting for the train.
Oh, hey Cloud.
Well, crap. Blowing up the Mako Reactors did not go as planned. Sorry Jessie, Biggs, Wedge, and everyone in Sector 7…

I write speculative fiction inspired by mythos from around the world, complex family dynamics, and my own experiences living with mental illness. After earning my BA in Linguistics from Brigham Young University in 2008, I received my MFA in Creative Writing from Converse College in 2012. I live in Denver, where my husband and I spend countless hours chasing our three young sons (and sometimes catching them!). I collect tarot decks, dye my hair mermaid colors, and procrastinate by decorating my home. My debut novel, Feathers Sharp as Knives, releases on May 2, 2023.
