What’s Up Wednesday: Mild Panic Attack then Oh-Wait-I-Should-Be-Okay Edition

I’m going to start Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell later today and I’m pretty excited. I’ve heard really good things about it, so I don’t expect to be disappointed! Still reading Over Sea, Under Stone (slowly) but putting it on the back burner because that book club has been postponed to next week and my YA book club’s online “meeting” for Eleanor and Park is on Sunday night.

Oh, you know, just some FRACTURED RADIANCE. I have 15-20kish words left! I’m finally breaking new ground which is terrifying! I’d forgotten how hard getting new material down is. And I’m still very intimidated by my plot. There’s all kinds of political intrigue and it feels way out of my reach. But I can do it! Even if I don’t nail it on this draft, whelp, that’s why we revise. I had a bit of a panic attack yesterday when I realized the 30th is NEXT WEEK but then I did a basic outline of the last act, drank a lot of Diet Dr. P, and gave myself a pep talk. There may be some late nights involved, but I can do it!! I hope … I mean, I CAN!

My friend Julie granted me an extension to my self-imposed deadline. So it’s there if I need it. But I’m going to try reeeeeeaaaaallyyyyy hard not to use it.

At this juncture, lots of caffeine. And my playlist! Here’s a list of the tunes:

“Waiting for the End” Linkin Park

“Iridescent” Linkin Park

“The Catalyst” Linkin Park

“Northern Lights” Cider Sky

“Turning Page – Instrumental” Sleeping at Last

“Endtapes” The Joy Formidable

“Love Death Birth” Carter Burwell

“Shake It Out” Florence + the Machine

“Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)” Florence + the Machine

“Cosmic Love” Florence + the Machine

“Turning Page” Sleeping at Last (yeah two versions of this song on here, but it’s so good!)

“Way of the Light” Blackalicious

“My Body” Young the Giant

“Sleep” Copeland

“A Thousand Years” Christina Perri

“Gimme Sympathy” Metric

“We Are in Love” Cider Sky

“Punching in a Dream” The Naked and Famous

And all music by The Naked and Famous, actually. Man I love them so much.

I am really, really behind on commenting, so I’ll try to catch up this week. Sorry about that! I’ve been pouring all my non-mommy, non-wife, non-cleaning (and some of my cleaning) energy into writing. I’ll get back on top by next Wednesday fo sho!

What are you up to this fine Wednesday?

I write speculative fiction inspired by mythos from around the world, complex family dynamics, and my own experiences living with mental illness. After earning my BA in Linguistics from Brigham Young University in 2008, I received my MFA in Creative Writing from Converse College in 2012. I live in Denver, where my husband and I spend countless hours chasing our three young sons (and sometimes catching them!). I collect tarot decks, dye my hair mermaid colors, and procrastinate by decorating my home. My debut novel, Feathers Sharp as Knives, releases on May 2, 2023.
